South Africa chose to bat vs England

South Africa opted to bat in the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final against England which will decide who faces Australia in the showdown for the trophy on Sunday.

England rested seamer Lauren Bell for their final group-stage game against Pakistan but she returns to the fold, meaning Freya Davies misses out. South Africa are unchanged from the side which defeated Bangladesh by 10 wickets to reach the semi-finals at the expense of New Zealand.

Australia, the title favourites, were pushed by India during the first semi-final, winning by just five runs on the strength of a superior fielding performance and some wily death bowling by Jess Jonassen and Ashleigh Gardner. Like Australia, England have been impressive during an undefeated group-stage campaign which included a record-breaking 114-run victory over Pakistan. England are also on a 10-game winning streak in T20Is.
Hosts South Africa, meanwhile, had to claw their way into the knockouts after losing the opening match of the tournament to Sri Lanka as well as being beaten by the Australians. They are hoping for a big home crowd supporting them at Newlands, where play was set to begin in fine conditions.

England have beaten South Africa in all three of their previous World Cup semi-final meetings, at the 2014 edition of this event and at the 2017 and 2022 ODI tournaments.
