IPL 2021 – Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier positive for Covid-19, KKR vs RCB rescheduled

Monday night’s IPL match has been pushed back
Monday night’s IPL match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challenges Bangalore has been rescheduled. It is understood that two players of the Knight Riders contingent – mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and seam bowler Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for Covid-19. It is believed that Chakravarthy recently left the IPL bio-bubble through the official green channel to carry out a scan on his shoulder and that is where he might have got exposed. Barring Chakravarthy and Warrier, the rest of the the Knight Riders contingent’s tests came out clear.
This is the first instance of positive Covid-19 cases to members within the IPL bio-bubble since the 2021 season started. Both the franchise and the IPL are yet to issue a statement.
Knight Riders are currently seventh on the points table, having won only two of their first seven matches. The last played on Thursday against the Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. With a misfiring top-order, overseas combination issues and questionable powerplay bowling plans, they are under threat of failing to make the play-offs for the third season in a row.
